Cino Bambino
It’s no surprise that Cino Bambino owners Matt and Peta Mayall are passionate about coffee. They’re foodies from way back on an unashamed mission for “cino” perfection, Italian-style. As you would expect, Cino Bambino is a product of this passion, delivering a slice of colourful cafe life to seaside Brunswick Heads.
There’s the smell of roasted Arabica-style beans from acclaimed Toby’s Estate – ground fresh to order; the whir of the espresso machine and the friendly, dark-haired (but maybe too tall to be truly Italian) barista Matt, who not only knows your name but how you like your coffee too.
BITES
And then there’s the food. Try saying no to the thoughtful selection of sweet pastries and decadent cakes on display. There’s melt-in-your-mouth chocolate brownies, fresh muffins baked with raspberries and white chocolate, rich chocolate mud cakes served hot with double cream or ice cream ... the list goes on! You’ll also be tempted by the range of sweet and savoury gluten-free options, all made locally and all delicious.
For a cafe of its size, Cino Bambino really packs a punch with its lunch and breakfast fare. Matt creates a daily menu of original sandwiches and baguettes using the freshest ingredients. And there’s a lot of attention to detail. Try the chicken and roast pine nut baguette smothered in a creamy homemade mayonnaise when on the menu, or other favourites like the chargrilled vegetables with feta and basil pesto toasted panini.
Breakfast is equally impressive with everything from local macadamia muesli to the infamous breakfast burrito stuffed with egg, crispy bacon and a good lashing of home-made baked beans, encased in melted cheese.
BAMBINOS
But as the name suggests, Cino Bambino has another great passion – apart from exceptional coffee and food. And that is “bambinos”. Matt and Peta opened Cino Bambino shortly after the arrival of their son, Charlie, in June 2007. And he has been an integral part of the cafe ever since – inspiring the creation of a family-friendly space fitted-out with comfy couches, a play pen and baby’s change room.
“We don’t see why hard working, sleep-deprived parents should also be deprived of a decent cup of coffee, something great to eat and a moment to sit down and enjoy it,” says Peta Mayall.
“We want all our customers to feel at home ... whether they’re stopping for coffee and chat, chilling out on the couch with a mag, or grabbing a take-away. We’re not a big cafe but we’re very big on genuine service.”
Cino Bambino is open from 8am for Breakfast and Lunch, Tues to Sunday.
